Un’opera teatrale che ci propone lo scontro fra due regine, Maria ed Elisabetta, tra loro anche sorelle: la prima incarcerata per 18 anni per un omicidio che si presume abbia commesso, ma in realtà perché è cattolica in un’Inghilterra protestante, la seconda al potere, più anziana, che vive il dramma di dover condannare a morte Maria per evitare un pericolo maggiore per il suo paese.

In un monologo serrato e appassionante, Marta Bettuolo dà voce ai due personaggi: da un lato Maria votata al complotto, al fanatismo, al risentimento; dall’altro Elisabetta, eterna indecisa, poco lungimirante, dominata da emotività irrefrenabile. Un dramma storico e politico che converge infine sul dramma interiore della protagonista, Maria, che percorre con slancio quasi mistico le tappe verso l’accettazione totale del proprio destino.
